We seek work that is viral, dynamic and that challenges in new and interesting ways our question why are we not in paradise?

All submissions should be original and, unless solicited, previously unpublished.

• FICTION/NONFICTION – submit up to 2,000 words in a Word/RTF attachment. Excerpts are acceptable.
• POETRY – submit between three and seven poems as a single Word/RTF attachment. One poem per page. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate special/complex formatting at this time.
• ART/FILM/MUSIC – submit an artist statement and samples uploaded to your own web space. If accepted, we will ask for a copy.
• OTHER MEDIA – please send a brief statement if you have work/art that does not exactly fit into or is a hybrid of the aforementioned genres and include examples.

At the top of the Word or Rich Text document and in the body of your email, please include your name, the date, email and genre of your work. A brief cover letter is optional. We would also appreciate it if you tell us in the body of your email where you heard of paradise. If you are submitting work in multiple genres, please send each genre as its own email and attached word document.

Simultaneous submissions are acceptable on condition that you notify us immediately if something has been accepted elsewhere.

As we are new and independent, we unfortunately cannot pay contributors.

We acquire the right to publish and archive your work. The site and all of the content is currently under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported license. All rights revert to the creator after publication. If afterward the work is reprinted elsewhere, we ask that we be acknowledged as its first publisher.

Please send all work to submissions@whyarewenotinparadise.com. Note in the subject box your name and the genre of your work. We reserve the right to make minor edits regarding punctuation and grammar on your work. Otherwise, please submit what you feel is ready for publishing.

We publish frequently and will respond as quickly as possible. Please allow up to six weeks before sending queries.
