About

The Mission

We all have questions: the kind that plague our minds, that please us or hurt us, the kind we wake to everyday and wonder if we’ll ever find an answer. why are we not in paradise? serves as the meeting place of these interrogations, featuring content that moves to answer perhaps the ultimate question our title poses while also posing its own. Content published here is from writers, artists and musicians from all over the country. Their diversity is evident but what they all seem to share is our desire to want the impossible to become the possible and the faith that only our imaginations can take us there.

History

The idea for why are we not in paradise? began in early 2009 when Sarah Lawrence College students, Nick Feder and Liz Wachtler, became interested in creating a zine. Not sure where to begin, Nick decided to purchase a domain name and some web space to host content that he and Liz would use to post prompts with found pictures from the internet. It was through this compulsive dialogue that paradise? blossomed.

This project is only just beginning. It would not have reached this point without the help of Rickey Laurentiis, Alice Quinlan, Michael and Sally Feder, Peggy Gould, Seth Partner, Elizabeth Schmidt, and Chester Jones.
